Which Tarot Spread Should I Use?
A spread is simply the layout for your cards. The right one depends on your question: simple questions suit small spreads, and big tangled ones suit bigger spreads. When in doubt, start small. Unfamiliar words? Check the Tarot Glossary.

One card
Best for: daily guidance, yes/no questions, a theme for the day or a quick check-in.
How to read it: ask a clear question or simply ask, “What do I need to know today?” Notice your first reaction before checking the meaning.
Positions: 1. The message.
Three cards: Past, Present, Future
Best for: understanding how a situation is unfolding.

Decisions

Seven-card horseshoe
Best for: a situation with a bit more depth than three cards, without a full Celtic Cross.
Positions: 1. Past. 2. Present. 3. Hidden influences. 4. Obstacles. 5. Other people’s influence. 6. Advice. 7. Likely outcome.
Celtic Cross
Best for: major life questions that deserve a thorough look. It uses ten cards and takes time to read. Full guide: Celtic Cross spread.
Tips for choosing
- Fewer cards means a clearer answer. More cards means more detail.
- Keep the question open: “What do I need to know about...?” works better than a harsh yes/no.
- You can always add a clarifier card if one feels unclear.
- Not sure? Draw three cards and see how it feels.
